Magnetic separators are used to purify coolant (chip oil or emulsion) for grinding machines and other machine tools. The magnetic drum of the separator sucks the chips out of the coolant, keeping the coolant clean. Using the magnetic separator reduces the number of grinding wheel corrections, improves the surface smoothness of the workpiece, and extends the service life of the grinding wheel and coolant.
In the grinding process, with the improvement of machining accuracy, high-speed grinding and powerful grinding technologies are developing rapidly, and it is necessary to improve the quality of grinding fluid circulation in addition to selecting reasonable grinding parameters. There are two types of purification devices: filter type and power type. The filtration type relies on the filtration medium to remove impurities, such as screen, line gap, sheet and paper belt filters. The power type relies on some kind of force (such as centrifugal force, magnetic force or gravity) to separate out impurities, such as centrifugal, vortex and magnetic separators.
When grinding ferromagnetic materials, there are both ferromagnetic substances and non-ferromagnetic impurities in the waste liquid, and the magnetic separator is generally used to remove more than 80% of the impurities. For better control of filtration accuracy, it is best to use a combination of magnetic separator and paper belt filter
